Traffic insurance protects the other party, not your own vehicle. In an accident where you are at fault, the policy pays for repairs to the other vehicle, medical treatment for injured parties and compensation in cases of permanent disability or death, within limits published annually by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. Damage to your own car requires a separate comprehensive (kasko) policy.
Driving without a valid policy leads to administrative fines and the vehicle being taken off the road. More importantly, if you cause an accident while uninsured, the entire loss is recovered from your personal assets. Tracking your renewal date and comparing offers before expiry is both a legal and a financial necessity.
The compulsory limits can fall short in a serious accident: hitting a high-value vehicle, injuring several people or a claim involving permanent disability can exceed the policy ceiling, and anything above it is recovered from the at-fault driver's own assets. Supplementary motor liability (İMM) closes exactly that gap, taking over from where the compulsory limit ends up to the amount you select. It can also cover non-pecuniary damages, which compulsory traffic insurance excludes entirely — the first clause to check when comparing quotes.
Premiums follow a regulated no-claims tier system rather than a free tariff. Every claim-free year moves you up a tier and lowers the premium, while each claim moves you down. Seras Sigorta queries the tariffs of 27 partner insurers simultaneously to identify the company offering the best premium for your tier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does traffic insurance cover damage to my own car?
No. It only covers third party losses. For damage to your own vehicle you need a comprehensive kasko policy.
What happens if I drive without traffic insurance?
You face administrative fines and the vehicle can be impounded. If you cause an accident, the entire loss is recovered from your personal assets.
Does my no-claims discount transfer to a new car?
Yes. The no-claims tier belongs to the registered owner, not the vehicle, and transfers to a new vehicle of the same usage type.
What happens if the traffic policy limit is not enough?
Anything above the limit is recovered from the at-fault driver's own assets. Supplementary motor liability (İMM) covers that risk, raising the limits and, on selected policies, covering non-pecuniary damages too.
Can I renew before the expiry date?
Renewal is generally possible within 30 days of expiry. Use that window to compare offers and secure a better premium.
